Pterodactylus is a genus of pterosaur (the first to be named and identified as a flying reptile) that lived during the late Jurassic Period (150-144 million years ago).

It was a carnivore and probably preyed upon fish and other small animals.

Pterodactylus was a relatively small pterosaur with adult wingspans ranging from 50 centimeters (1.5 ft) to 2.4 meters.
